Best Coffee Grinding Methods

The best method for grinding coffee beans depends on the desired outcome and the type of coffee maker you will be using. In general, however, there are three main methods of grinding coffee beans:

  • Blade grinding: Blade grinding involves using a blade grinder, which is a small appliance with rotating blades that chop the coffee beans into smaller pieces. This method is inexpensive and easy to use, but it can be inconsistent and may produce heat that can affect the flavor of the coffee.
  • Burr grinding: Burr grinding involves using a burr grinder, which has two abrasive surfaces (known as burrs) that crush the coffee beans into a consistent size. This method is more consistent and produces a better-tasting cup of coffee, but it can be more expensive and difficult to clean.
  • Hand grinding: Hand grinding involves using a manual coffee grinder, which typically consists of a hand-crank and a grinding mechanism. This method is the most labor-intensive, but it allows for complete control over the grinding process and can produce a high-quality, consistent grind.

Overall, the best method for grinding coffee beans depends on your personal preferences and needs. Blade grinding is a quick and easy method, but it can be inconsistent. Burr grinding produces a more consistent grind, but it is more expensive and difficult to clean. Hand grinding allows for complete control, but it is the most labor-intensive.

Katz Coffee 21st Anniversary

Twenty One years ago, Katz Coffee was just a dream in the mind of our founder, Avi Katz. It was a dream fueled by his passion for coffee, and his desire to share that passion with the world. Today, as we celebrate our 21st anniversary, we look back on our journey with pride and gratitude, knowing that we’ve come a long way since those early days.

The Journey of Avi Katz & Katz Coffee

Avi’s coffee journey began in 1997 when he graduated from the Conrad Hilton College at the University of Houston with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He went on to work for Diedrich Coffee, honing his skills and learning the craft of coffee roasting. Eventually, he returned to his hometown of Houston to roast at Lola Savannah, before helping to found Fontana Coffee Roasters. All of these experiences fueled his passion for coffee, and prepared him for what was to come.

Katz Coffee becomes a reality

In 2003, Katz Coffee became a reality. It was a one-man operation at first, with Avi roasting small batches of coffee and selling to local restaurants. But as demand grew, so did our team and our capabilities. We expanded our offerings to include top-of-the-line equipment and acquired invaluable knowledge about the art of brewing. Today, we’re proud to offer a range of services and products designed to meet the diverse needs of coffee lovers everywhere.

At Katz Coffee, we specialize in providing wholesale coffee solutions to restaurants, cafes, hotels, and grocery retailers. We work with some of Texas’ most highly-acclaimed and discriminating chefs and restaurateurs, creating proprietary coffee blends, offering education, menu consulting, equipment sales, service, and training. Our goal is to ensure that every cup served to their customers is of the highest quality. At Katz Coffee, “We Grow Together”.

More than just great coffee

Our mission goes beyond just providing great coffee. At the heart of Katz Coffee lies the unwavering passion of Avi Katz himself, whose dedication to helping others is embedded in our company’s mission. We work with many local nonprofit organizations and offer Cause Coffee partnerships that will donate portions of sales back to specific non-profit groups. At Katz Coffee, “Every Sip Stands for Something”.

Our success is rooted in the satisfaction of our customers, and in the remarkable team that has played vital roles in accommodating our exponential growth. We’re proud of our small beginnings, and the story of perseverance and growth that they tell. Join us on our extraordinary coffee journey and experience the passion, quality, and community-driven spirit that define Katz Coffee.

Join us in our Coffee Journey

Our work ethic, our morale, and our business perspective are heavily influenced by the folk-tale of the Jumping Mouse. This mouse sacrifices the vision and way of life with which he was comfortable and familiar in order to become something greater. At Katz Coffee, we’re always striving to become something greater, to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of coffee. And we invite you to join us on that journey.

A Nut with Deep Roots in Texas History

Pecans are native to Texas, and have been a vital part of the state’s history and culture for centuries. Native American tribes in the region used pecans as a food source long before European settlers arrived. When those settlers did arrive, they quickly took notice of the nut’s delicious flavor, and began incorporating it into their own recipes.

By the 19th century, pecans had become an important agricultural crop in Texas, and the state remains the leading producer of pecans in the United States today. Pecans are grown throughout Texas, with the majority of the state’s pecan orchards located in the Texas Hill Country.

A Versatile Nut with a Delicious Flavor

What makes pecans so special? For one, they have a rich, buttery flavor that pairs well with a variety of foods. They can be eaten raw, roasted, or used in both sweet and savory dishes. Pecans are also packed with nutrition, containing healthy fats, protein, fiber, and a variety of vitamins and minerals.

But for many Texans, pecans are more than just a delicious and nutritious food. They are a symbol of their state’s pride and identity, a reminder of the land’s abundance and resilience.
