Gateway Academy is a unique school in Houston, Texas that serves 6th-12th grade students with academic and social challenges.
Since 2006, they’ve been committed to teaching traditional academics, while also meeting the social and emotional needs of their students with learning and social differences. Over the last fifteen years, their work has been to create a safe space that provides students with the opportunities for identity exploration, learning self-awareness, and practicing self-advocacy.

Gateway Academy serves 6th-12th grade students with academic and social challenges through innovative approaches to learning, physical fitness, and social awareness. Their graduates encounter a changing world with self-advocacy, opening a path to personal significance in college, career, and community.
Their highest priority from the very beginning has been to create a school community where every student feels safe, connected, understood, and supported. This positive environment reshapes attitudes about school, improves the prospects for success in the classroom, and allows the student to bring their best self every day.

HOW DOES KATZ COFFEE HELP?
The Gateway Students have a special place in our hearts here at Katz Coffee.
The Gateway Academy is part of our Cause Coffee program, in which we donate a percentage of every sale of Gateway Blend Coffee directly to Gateway Academy as unrestricted funds to benefit the organization, their mission and goals.
Additionally, with every purchase of our Burlap Bags pack, we donate $5 to the Gateway Academy.
As part of our commitment to help the students, we have also developed the Katz Coffee Gateway Internship in which a group of students each semester become part of our team and learn important work skills that will help them in their futures. Our internship allows the students to work with our production, order fulfillment team and main baristas in order to learn and perform these jobs.
On 2022, we initiated our Cafe Takeover’s in which the student baristas offer coffee to our customers at our headquarters here in Houston. All proceeds from the events benefit the Gateway Academy Financial Assistance Program. On 2022, with 4 Cafe Takeovers we raised and donated $11,417 to the Gateway Academy.
